Discovering who we are and what gives us our unique fingerprint in the world has many layers- just like peeling back an onion. The next step in turning our talents into Strengths is to discover how our Strengths affect the way we think, feel and behave. We all have a “lens” in which we view our worlds based on our experiences, our families, and our environment. These factors, coupled with our innate talents, make each of us unique and special. In our next series of blogs we will be exploring the “lens” of the 34 talent themes and discover the possibilities of how one may think, feel and behave based on how these themes play out in our lives. Our hope is for you to have greater understanding of yourselves and the people in your lives, which will lead to better communication both personally and professionally. Each Strength possesses it’s own edge and personality and influences the way we view our world, act in our world and affect our world. This greater awareness will allow us to own and appreciate the way we were uniquely created and walk into the one of a kind destiny that only we have the ability to achieve.

What are your Top 5? Strategic Futuristic Woo Ideation Communication How do you see them playing out in your life? I LOVE meeting new people! Every day presents new opportunities for me to make strategic connections that elevate my business, family life and friendships. I get a massive rush when attending networking events. Not only do I feel positive about meeting new people, but I am also dipping into my mental Rolodex when someone mentions to me that they need help in a specific area. I find myself saying, “Hey! I just met someone who can help you with that.” Using my talents to help others attain success is my number one goal. My Communication talent theme allows me to present my ideas, or the ideas of others in a format that is easily understood by all in attendance. Plus, I love having fun and enjoy any time I earn positioned under the spotlight! To me, the future is always bright. What's your favorite theme? Most people expect me to say WOO when I’m asked this question, but my favorite theme is Futuristic. I seriously get stoked when I think about the un-tapped possibilities that await me! I don’t find myself spending too much time reflecting on the past. I feel that you can learn from it, but too much time spent concentrating on history stunts the growth of our future. What's the one theme that "gets in your way"? Communication. I am often told that I have “a lot to say.” Duh! It’s how I express myself, but I have to be cautious not to speak over others or during moments where silence would prove more blissful. But when I do have something to say, my words are chosen carefully. How has knowing your top 5 empowered you to live a more authentic life? This response is going to force me to place my communication in check! For far too long I was told to avoid getting involved in concerns that didn’t directly affect me. But I felt an overwhelming desire to use my talents to help others express themselves. I’d run into people daily who’d explain to me that their ideas or visions were simply too difficult for them to express to the public. Hearing that, I’d ask them to explain it to me in their own words, and then allow me to refine their pitch in an effort to maximize its appeal and WOW factor! This ability to help others communicate has given my life a massive boost of meaning, love and joyful fulfillment. Additional info… At UnleashStrengths.com, our team is currently in the process of developing 34 short videos that present the viewer with detailed insights into each theme. We are halfway! Earlier this month, reCreate left sunny San Diego to bring Strengths to the sizzling South! We had the privilege of being the keynote speakers at The Worthing Companies bi-yearly employee retreat in Atlanta Georgia.
The corporate and management staff took part in Round 2 of our Strengths work which began back in December 2013. While the first workshop focused on the individual and their Top 5 Strengths, Round 2 concentrated on the composition of what makes great teams and managers. Our time was spent focusing on strategies of how to more effectively lead their teams based on their Manager's Strengths Lens and discovering their unique contributions as leaders. We went through team building exercises and role-plays designed to equip them to use Strengths to make efficient, well-rounded teams. They left excited to bring back the tools they learned to take their teams from good to great! We ended the night with a groovy disco themed party where the entire staff got decked out in their afros and bellbottoms and showed us how they boogie in the South! What's your Top 5? 1. Achiever 2. Relator 3. Learner 4. Consistency 5. Intellection How do you see them playing out in your life? Self assessment and personality profiling tests have always been terribly intriguing and stimulating to me because they come with the invaluable reward of a deeper and further understanding and discovery of who you are and how you operate. Achiever is the strength that influences and drives me the most in every area of my life. It's an eternal fire that burns without cease and causes me to always seek to challenge myself; reach new heights and maximize my potential - whether it be in business or my personal life. Becoming a better person all-around and driving myself to be the very best I can be is part of my innate nature. Relator is definitely El Capitan when it comes to my relationships. If there is no substance to the relationship I'm not typically motivated to invest much of myself into it. Please don't misunderstand me, that's not to say I don't care about people who I'm not close with, I do! However, if there is no depth I won't be drawn to have a strong relationship with that individual. My Intellection and Learner strenths are ever-present in my life on a daily basis. "Curiosity killed the cat" never stopped me. I need the rhyme and reason to the riddle... the "who, why, how, what, where, when..." and facts to back up any conclusive or decisive answer. Knowledge is power! It's a huge asset to accompany you in any circumstance and a tool you can use to influence others with or be influenced by. What's your favorite theme? My favorite theme is Relator because it's the only one of my top 5 strengths that is related to people! I have to giggle because I pride myself on having "unprecedented" empathy and ability to connect with people, yet I only have 1 top strength related to people (seriously?!)! That's why I chose it for my favorite - because I love people and I love close relationships. They feed my heart & soul and I've learned that I do in fact need them (need - wow, that is a hard thing to admit). "Deep calls unto deep..." would be my life motto, as I thrive off intimate and devoted relationships. To say that a handful of close friends is far more valuable than a ton of acquaintances would be an understatement. What truly matters in life are the people who are in it. What's the one theme that "gets in your way"? Achiever is definitely the angel and devil on my shoulder that can be my best companion and/or worst enemy. A true Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde of strengths. It's that little voice in my ear that constantly tells me to push myself and become better; to stretch my capacity and increase my abilities - an internal challenger to be the best possible "me". There is a bitter sweet component when you are competing with yourself because the projected "goal" is forever metamorphosing and evolving. That makes it unattainable because it's impossible to reach a "mark" that's infinite in composition. How has knowing your top 5 empowered you to live a more authentic life? It's the most beautiful thing to know who you are and who you were made to be. Discovering who you are is a lifelong journey, but knowing that you were made with a certain innate nature is empowering and allows you to really shine and become who you were made to be! Being true to yourself is an invaluable gift. No two people are made the same and yet every human being desires to know they are valued, worthy and have something to offer. Knowing that you have certain strengths, skills and abilities to offer is not only rewarding internally but also externally when walking out your purpose and calling in life. Want to be featured? For the last 5 weeks, we’ve been focusing on the different sectors and phases of life that Strengths can affect including college students, couples, faith, transition and career. We love to see how virtually anyone in any season of life can be transformed if they know their Strengths and live their lives according to what they innately do best. The results we’ve found in working with people in these phases of life is they gain: · More Direction · Hope for the future · Clearer Purpose · Less Frustration · Better Boundaries · More Confidence When people take StrengthsFinder, discover their Strengths, love what they find out but do nothing with the information, what it becomes is useless information. Information in itself is not transformative. We are transformed by applying the information, having it become a daily conversation and something we live by. What we’ve found in this work is it is never too early or too late to discover our Strengths and use them to have a more fulfilled, purposeful life and better relationships. The journey is not always easy. It takes the willingness to accept who we are and who we are not. It's not about changing who we are. It's about being free to become more of who we are. What's your top 5? Includer Activator Individualization Restorative Woo How do you see them playing out in your life? Now that I have my top five strengths summed up into five foundational words, I can continue to build on them day to day. Recognizing and improving your strengths can have a much more impactful effect on your life, than focusing on your weaknesses, especially if you’re confused about a career path. What's your favorite theme? If I had to pick a favorite theme, I’d have to say it’d be ‘Includer’. Ever since I was a child, I’ve always tried to include people in activities—maybe it’s because I always felt bad for Rudolph when he was excluded in all those games:) What's the one theme that "gets in your way"? After giving my top five a hard look, I honestly can’t say any of them get in my way. After all, they are my top strengths. How has knowing your top 5 empowered you to live a more authentic life? Knowing your top five can drastically change the way you view yourself, or solidify what you already thought about yourself. In my case, I was torn over what career path I wanted to commit myself to. After taking the test and having my strengths further explained, not only did I feel assured and confident, but also, I came to a conclusion on which career path to take. Want to be featured? Just like large and small businesses, churches and places of faith are run by people who have to collaborate together to execute a vision. At reCreate, we have had the privilege to work with places of faith in helping the members and leaders discover their strengths to better equip them with their mission. Because the church is made up of so many volunteers, it is critical to put people in the places they will thrive and grow both for the individual and the message of the church. Gallup has found more than half of churchgoers report that they don't get to do what they do best in their congregations or parishes. And this is driving people away. Even in church, you can find less than enthusiastic volunteers and it could just be because they are not given the chance to do what they do best. I want to highlight a few Strengths that people of faith have a harder time accepting. One of those being Significance. People with Significance want to leave a legacy and they leave that legacy through their own lives and desire to be recognized. An example of someone with Significance in the bible is the blind man Bartimaeus in Mark 10:46-52 who’s desire to be recognized and his confidence led to his vision being restored. Competition is another strength people have had trouble with in the faith community because completion in some people’s eyes implies that do whatever you have to do to win. But in the Bible, Paul recognized the importance of being competitive to spread the gospel when he said, Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore, I do not run like a man running aimlessly. 1 Corinthians 9:24-26 In whatever capacity it is that you use your Strengths, we at reCreate want everyone to appreciate and own the uniqueness of how you were created, see the power and edge it brings to your relationships as well as your unique mission in life. What's your top 5? Communication Strategic Woo Developer Futuristic How do you see them playing out in your life? Communication is the strength I see that impacts most of life because I use it 24/7 with my career as a newscaster. Also being a business owner I use my communication strength to be the voice of my fitness studios. I pretty much get paid to speak! I see my Woo playing out as well because I'm constantly connecting and interacting with tons of people and love hearing about their lives and stories. It’s cool to see how the majority of what I do everyday revolves around these strengths! What's your favorite theme? My favorite theme is Developer. I love mentoring and coaching people to help them achieve their goals.I love pouring myself into people and seeing people flourish by taking the time to offer wisdom, resources and simply let them know I believe in them. It gives me energy to see people grow and figure out the right paths for themselves! What's the one theme that "gets in your way"? Even though Developer is my favorite strength, it also is something that can get in my way quite often. Probably because I have a hard time saying no! When people need help, I desire so much to be of service to them that I sometimes become deflated because I tend to neglect parts of my own life. I would consider myself very independent and usually am the one helping others so I have to be very aware of setting good boundaries and remember it’s ok to ask for help. How has knowing your top 5 empowered you to live a more authentic life? Knowing my strengths has given me permission to be who I was made to be instead of trying to fill the role of someone else. It has also given me the reassurance that the things I love doing I should invest my time into instead of trying to be good at things that aren’t my strengths. For example, I despise doing things like administrative tasks because they suck energy from me so I’ve stopped trying to be good at those things and have delegated them to others that enjoy them much more. I now concentrate on the things that bring life to me such as coaching and engaging with people. I can better embrace the things that I excel at and feel less pressure to be good at the things that leave me depleted. Want to be featured? We would love to showcase you!
